I can't believe summer is winding down! I let my daughter pick out her back pack and lunch box today. She chose the Color Splash print from L.L. Bean. Love the free shipping and no sales tax. We usually do pink or purple backpacks, I love this, it is a fun change.

Homemade Snow cones!

At our weekend family get together, my sis in law Ginny made snow cones!  They were SO good!  Snow cones is one of those things that never occured to me to make at home.(thanks alot for not buying me that Snoopy snow cone machine Mom! :) Anyway her snow cones were delish!  She said she picked up all of her syrups at Walmart.(or you can make your own here) You can chop up your ice, in the blender or food processor.  I had a pineapple snow cone, it was YUMMMYYYY!

Christmas in July- Free Printable!

It's 100 bazillion degrees here, and muggy to boot.  I have been thinking about snow. Weekend Trip

 Over the weekend we went to visit our families.  We ended up taking our kids to the zoo with my parents.  While we were having a little Diet Coke break, I became enamored with these lovely little flags.  I liked them even more when I read the sign explaining their significance.

 Next to the flags, I found this fabulous vintage bike.  My husband and mother thought I was INSANE for loving it, and snapping it's picture. ;)  I tuned them out, something about "She likes old crap, she wants to be an American Picker...."  blah,blah,blah :)

 I had to control myself from riding off on it.

On the way back from the zoo, I snapped a picture of East High(you know, where Highschool Musical was filmed?) my girls were very impressed. (please forgive the quality of the next two pics, we were whizzing down the road, and I snapped them out of  the car window :)

 "What time is it? Summer time! It's our vacation!"

Last but not least a lovely field of lavender.  I am happy with how this one turned out, especially considering we were heading down the freeway at 80 miles per hour when I snapped it.  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

Vintage Cookbooks

Do you like how I tried to airbrush my outlet out of the picture? :)Remember how I spray painted that thing, and I didn't know what it was?  Thanks to a couple of smartie sister in laws, I was told it was a rack to roast turkey.  The turkey rack was okay, except that it let my books sit directly on the counter so if anybody spilled my books didn't have anything at all to lift them up.  It was small and I couldn't fit many books in it.  I was hoping to find a vintage dish drainer to store my books. I found something I I like even better than a dish drainer.  The other day I was searching etsy and came across this.  I LOVE it!  It arrived today and I think it does a fab job holding my books.  I gave the turkey rack to my daughter.  Her book case is packed, so she put the rack on top of her bookcase and filled it with paper backs.  Here are a few vintage cookbooks that I have picked up over the last couple of weeks.

This is another Betty Crocker facsimile.  It's a reprint of a vintage book.  You can get these for a great price.

I think I have posted this find before.  LOVE that it is still in the original box.  The illustrations are darling.

Vintage Enamelware Bucket

Yippee! I love this old bucket! it's 1940's. I scored it off of eBay for a great price. It even comes with the original lid! I am either going to use it to store wrapping paper, or as a planter.

Up House

A builder in Utah built this lovely house.  I absolutely love it!  I wouldn't change a thing.  I don't even think I would ever get sick of the bright colors.

Cath Kidston

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE Cath Kidston?(I just downloaded a free wallpaper for my computer)  I love her style, so colorful and cheery.  I recently purchased her recipe organizer and love it. It is a full sized binder with pockets for loose recipes, lined sheets to write down recipes(this will be a nice upgrade from my current system of jotting down recipes on the back of envelopes, or old receipts:)  and a tabbed section for sheet protected recipes.  It is great to have my recipes in better order. I have handwritten many of my recipes down on the recipe cards.  I think this will make them more meaningful to my daughters some day.

Oatmeal Brown Sugar Muffins

I made these delicious muffins for my family this week.  They loved them!  I think they are easy and yummy!

• 1 cup oatmeal
• 1 cup whole wheat flour
• 1/2 cup flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 eggs
• 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
• 3/4 cup milk
• 1/4 cup melted butter or 1/4 cup oil
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

Prep Time: 10 mins

Total Time: 35 mins

1. 1 Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease muffin cups or use paper liners.
2. 2 Mix oats, flours, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
3. 3 Whisk eggs and brown sugar in another bowl. When smooth, whisk in milk, melted butter and vanilla. Pour over dry ingredients and fold in just until dry ingredients are moistened.
4. 4 Scoop into mufifn cups. Bake 15 to 25 minutes or until springy to the touch in the center.

 My head is still in summer mode, but I just couldn't pass up the fun letters from this etsy shop! I think they are SO adorable.  They will be so much fun for Halloween.

Okaaaaayyyyyy!  Are you seeing this??? We have cookoo crazies on the edge of a HUGE water fall.  They even have their kids with them.  OH BOY!  This is so going to give me nightmares.  During the dry season people are allowed to swim to the edge of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.  YIKES!
