House 8810!

I have died and gone to heaven.  I really don't have any birthday decorations to speak of.  Lately I have thought it would be fun to have banners, or something special that I could put up each year for birthdays.  I was so delighted when I found this!!  I swear I want everything from this store.  It was hard to decide, but I finally ended up ordering this and this!! :)

Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

For months I agonized over how to tackle the job, of repainting my cabinets. I flipped through design magazines, blogs, and had endless conversations with Home Depot dudes. I usually ended up feeling frustrated, like it was too great a task. The Home D. guys I spoke with told me I would have to sand the cabinets bare, glaze them, heat them reglaze.....What the??? Excuse me while I fashion a noose and hang myself sir. I finally decided to just go for it(with my clever momma's help of course) Here is what we did:

Lightly sanded(just slightly roughed them up) the cabinets while the doors were still hanging.

Got out our handy dandy drill and took all of the doors down
BEFORE

DURING
We then laid out a drop cloth, laid the doors down(on the plastic above each door we wrote with a sharpie where each door belonged, like over the fridge right side or whatever- this was SO helpful when we hung them back up) and primed them.(2 coats) I just used a mini roller and a brush for the little corners.   After they dried I applied two coats of Glidden Prairie Sage paint.  We hung the doors back up and installed the hardware.

Table Redo!

My poor sad table was on it's way out to the curb with the garbage. It was my parents table from the 1980's. My dog had chewed the legs, and it was covered in water stains. Most of the chairs had broken, I only had one left.  I was lucky and scored the chairs at a yard sale to complete my set. Whoohoo! I was thumbing through The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen, and was inspired by her kitchen table.

I began by ordering my oilcloth here. You can order the cloth to be shipped rolled or folded up. Having it folded is less money, but I recommend having it rolled. The creases are hard to get out. Next time I recover my table, I will definitely spring to have it rolled. I lightly sanded my table(mostly to get the gunky dried syrup off-ewwww!) primed it, and spray painted it. To apply the oilcloth I put it on the table, pulled it super tight, and placed heavy objects on top to keep it in place. I then folded it under and stapled gunned it to the underside of the table. When you get your first staple in place, go to the other side, pull tight, and staple on the opposite side. Have you ever put a trampoline together? It's like that. Alternating sides, not straight around, that is the best way to get it tight. I am SOOO happy with how it turned out! I am thrilled I didn't chuck this baby!

Teapot Lamp

I think this lamp is SO cool!  I really want it. Do I want to pay 198.00 for it?? Uh no.  Do I want to make it by myself?? Um not so much.  I think this will be one of the many projects my mom and I will be doing when she comes to stay in April. I think the knock off is even cuter than the original.

Window Story

I found this awesome old window from the 1800's on ebay.
I was so excited when Mr. Fed X brought it too my door.  Too bad for me, the minute he moved the box, I could hear that it was shattered.
Luckily the seller was very nice and issued me a refund.  SO I jumped on etsy to see if they had any windows.  I found the above little beauty here. It is from the 1930's not quite as old as my last one, but I think it is still very nice.  It arrived in one piece!  I can't wait to find some fun vinyl for it, and get it hung up.  If you see anything fabulous for it, let me know. :)

Belated Valentine Treats

I bought this 3 years ago. I had every intention of taking a class and learning how to decorate cakes. Well....it's been in the box until today. When I pipe(which is rare) I use a zip loc with the end snipped off.  I finally feel better after being sick all week,  I figured the fam deserved a little Valentine treat. SO I busted out the big guns, and decided to give it a try. I thought it was super fun! I know I am not very good but I am eager to learn. :)

Homemade Treat stands

I have seen these on a couple of different blogs, I think they are so cute!
Today I went to Target for the bowl and plate, and Dollar Tree for the candlesticks.  I decided to paint one candlestick and leave the other plain.  I am so excited about these!  I want to make them for every holiday. I tried my treat stand out with some fun dipped oreo's using this mold.  These were SO easy to make.  I think I will make them for every occasion(look at all of these!!.) :)

Lovelies

I LOVE the way this turned out!!

I wanted to post this one because I had to redo my scrabble pic.  Like an idiot I glued the tiles to the paper and crammed into the frame, Ummm..... not so good.  I red did it, I think it looks much cuter and the frame actual closes. :)  This encourages me when I feel I am not good at creating. :)  I am going to thrift stores this week, and will be creating up a storm baby! (why can't I stop saying "baby" I must be channeling George Costanza again)

The Help

I had several people recommend this book to me. I don't know why it took me so long to read it. I just got it from Amazon and I LOVE this book.  Like love, love it.  I am so happy they are making it into a movie. Have you checked out the cast?  Perfect.
